Transport for NSW mandated from 1 July 2024. Mandatory ASHTAS Operative accreditation to install, repair and maintain permanent road safety barrier systems. A grace period to 31 December 2024 will apply.
Qld TMR mandated from July 2024 i.e. updated MRTS14 published. All individuals who directly impact the quality of installation, maintenance or repair of permanent road safety barriers and end treatments must attain accreditation by successfully completing the ‘Operative Course’. A grace period to 31 December 2024 is offered for certain cases. Individuals or projects seeking this extension must submit a justification to TMR project sponsor or asset owner for consideration.
Victorian Department of Transport and Planning mandated from 1 July 2024. By 1 July 2024, all individual working with road safety barriers must be licenced, including anyone involved in installation and maintenance - installers, field workers, surveillance officers and delivery engineers. In addition, it’s recommended anyone that has a role the includes road safety barriers do the Operative course (and become Barrier Licenced) to understand the scheme and build their basic road safety barrier knowledge. This includes road designers, development engineers and contract administrators.
South Australia Department of Infrastructure and Transport mandated from 1 January 2025. By 1 January 2025, all individuals installing and maintaining/repairing road safety barriers must be licenced by successfully completing the ‘Operative Course’.
New Zealand Transport Agency. All installers and maintainers working with road safety barriers on state highways should undertake the ASHTAS training in order to demonstrate competence.
